4 February 2001 The Grand Harbour Development is once again at the forefront of the Cayman construction industry where the site developers, Caribbeus Developments, have recently become licensees for the construction of a Keystone Retaining Wall System. While from the main road, the Grand Harbour Shopping Centre looks fully constructed, behind the scenes extensive development continues at a rapid pace. The new Keystone Retaining Wall surrounds the entire marina and is close to the canal front lots at South Reach, which are currently on the market. It is a major coup for Grand Harbour as the manufacturing of the blocks is a licensed process from Keystone in Minneapolis, one of the largest licensors of retaining wall systems in America. |

Grand Harbour is the first development in Grand Cayman to boast this superior quality and structurally sound engineered wall system, which has proved very popular in the U.S. The Flowers Group have been appointed as the official manufacturer of the blocks and according to Frank Flowers, managing director of the company: " The decision to use Keystone blocks in the Grand Harbour development was unequivocal. Having high aesthetic appeal, very durable structural strength and being so versatile, the Keystone wall will add an exclusive feature to Grand Harbour". The 5ft high retaining wall functions as a gravity wall system, to provide the weight and stability to resist earth pressures of the surrounding land fill. It has a concrete foundation of 1½ feet below sea level for added strength, although from an engineering point of view, this was not required. Mike Bell, owner of Caribbeus Developments, who is developing the Grand Harbour site, states that the Keystone Retaining Wall System is "ideal when it comes to water applications, such as the canal and marina at Grand Harbour, due to it's physical strength and durability and is a proven performer in it's field". He enthuses - "the beauty of the Keystone wall lies in its classic look and graceful curves. It is an ideal natural-looking stone face to use here in Grand Harbour. The wall has been built, having smooth contours and curves, giving both the marina and canal a natural meandering feel and look, that will greatly enhance and complement the canal front lots at South Reach and the surrounding environment. Combine this with its construction stability, durability and strength to resist earth pressures, and there is no doubt, that this highly attractive feature will prove very popular with the residents and visitors here at Grand Harbour".
